Afzal Upal is chair of the Computer Science & Software Engineering Department at University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Prior to that he served as the founding chair of the Computing & Information Science Department at Mercyhurst University and leader of the Information, Effects & Influence Group at Defence Research & Development Canada. He was chair of the 2nd and 3rd Great Lakes Data Science Symposia, AAAI-06 Workshop on Intelligent Agents & Multiagent Systems, and the 14th Annual Meeting of the North American Association for Computational Social and Organizational Sciences. He has published over 100 articles and two peer reviewed books on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cognitive sciences.
