  • Tarek Mitri, PhD
    Tarek Mitri, PhD
    President

    Dr. Tarek Mitri was Director of the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut (2014-2019). Previously, he was the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Libya (2012-2014). Has served in four Lebanese governments as Minister of Environment, Minister of Administrative Reform, Minister of Culture, Minister of Information, and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs (2005-2011). Prior to the government service, he was Coordinator of Interreligious Relations at the World Council of Churches in Geneva (1991-2005) after having held various regional and international positions in the areas of mediation, Christian-Muslim relations, and intercultural dialogue. Dr. Mitri has taught at Université Saint Joseph, University of Balamand, the University of Geneva, Amsterdam Free University, Harvard University, and the American University of Beirut (1983-2015). He has authored a number of books and articles on contemporary Arab issues, religion and politics, and interreligious and intercultural dialogue. Dr. Mitri chairs the Boards of Nicolas Sursock Museum and the Institute of Palestine Studies, is a board member of the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, and is a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs.

    Antoine Haddad, PhD
    Vice President

    Dr. Antoine Haddad has 40 years of experience in research, university teaching, and consultancy to national and international institutions.
    From 2014 to 2019, Dr. Haddad was CEO of HBC, a private consultancy providing services in the broader field of Public Policy with a main focus on Economic and Fiscal Reform, Conflict Resolution, Inter-Religious Dialogue, Refugees and Governance. Previously and for 17 years, he was the managing partner of Dar al Tanmiya Ltd, a consultancy specialized in Socio-Economic and Human Development, Demography, Education, Employment and Labor Policies. Both firms provided services to International bodies (UNDP, ESCWA, ILO, World Bank), Governments and Public Administrations in Lebanon and MENA countries, NGOs/INGOs, and the private sector.
    In parallel, Dr. Haddad taught Industrial Chemistry at the Lebanese University (1981 – 2012) and was in charge of the relation between the Faculty of Sciences and major Lebanese industry players.
    Haddad holds a PhD in Applied Chemistry from Paris-6 University. He authored and contributed to a number of publications, including books and reports on: “Industry of Oil and Derivatives”, “Reforming the Lebanese University”, “Vocational Training in Lebanon”, “Poverty in Lebanon”, “Christian Responsibility in Economic Life and Development”.
    Dr. Haddad served as board and committee member of a number of organizations including World Vision, Middle East Council of Churches, World Council of Churches and Lebanese Association of Democratic Elections (LADE).
    Dr. Haddad regularly contributes to local and international newspapers and media outlets. In July 2019, he was appointed Vice President of SGUB.

  • Hanna Fares, PhD
    Hanna Fares, PhD
    Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences

    Dr. Fares earned his doctoral degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, USA, and subsequently carried out his postdoctoral studies at Columbia University, New York, USA.
    From 2001 until 2017, Dr. Fares was a faculty member, and for two years Interim Chair, in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Arizona, Tucson, USA, where he taught several courses, was an active biomedical researcher, and served on committees of several national and international agencies, including the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation in the USA.
    He has published more than 30 peer-reviewed articles in established journals on various topics, including the biogenesis of cellular organelles and the molecular basis of lysosomal storage disorders.
    Dr. Fares has presented his scholarly work at several international venues and is the past recipient of several grants/awards from private and public organizations, including March of Dimes, National Institutes of Health, and National Science Foundation.

  • Alexandre Nehme, MD
    Alexandre Nehme, MD
    Interim Dean Faculty of Medicine

    Dr. Alexandre Nehme is a Key Opinion Leader with over 20 years of experience in Orthopedic Surgery, Academia, and Healthcare Administration.
    Born and raised in Anfeh, he started his pre-medicine studies in Biology at the American University of Beirut but had to move to France to restart his medical education at the University of Paul Sabatier in Toulouse due to the Lebanese Civil War. His passion for Academic distinction was realized when he was awarded the University Laureate for Academic Excellence (1990 till 1992), best thesis work in 2000, and the ‘Rieunau Award,’ for the best Junior Orthopedic Surgery Consultant of the year 2002.
    In addition to the MD degree, he obtained a Master of Paleoanthropology degree from Bordeaux University in 1997.
    Dr. Nehme completed his extensive training in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology with a special interest in pathologies of the lower limb, specifically hip and knee surgeries, between Toulouse and the Mayo Clinic, USA.
    In the year of 2004, Dr. Alexandre Nehme returned to Lebanon and was appointed as a Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon at Saint George Hospital University Medical Center (SGHUMC). Inspired by the mission of SGHUMC, under the wise leadership of H.E. Metropolitan Elias Audi, Dr. Nehme committed himself to further refine his medical practice and evolve his skills as both an administrator leader and a practitioner.
    In 2017, Dr. Nehme acquired his Executive Masters in Business Administration from the University of Balamand. That same year, he was appointed as the Chief Medical Officer of SGHUMC leading all aspects related to medical care at the hospital.
    Since his appointment as Interim Dean in 2019, Dr. Nehme is passionately working with his team towards restructuring and optimizing the medical practice at SGHUMC, as well as establishing a state-of-the art medical school at Saint George University of Beirut. He is currently pursuing a Master of Education in the Health Professions at Johns Hopkins School of Education.

    Khalil Cotran, PhD
    Director of Human Resources

    Dr. Khalil Cotran has 50 years of professional experience in academia, FMCG, Finance, Banking, Pharmaceuticals, and Oil and Gas. Dr. Cotran led a major consultancy project at Hikma Pharmaceutical in Amman, Jordan, to establish a Talent Management Center of Excellence (2016 – March 2019).
    Prior to that assignment, Khalil served as the HR Managing Director of NBK Capital (National Bank of Kuwait) in Kuwait (2007-2016), and as Vice President of HR at Japan Tobacco International (previously R. J. Reynolds Tobacco International), based in Geneva, Switzerland, where he was in charge of the MENA region (1992-2007).
    His professional experience in the oil and gas sector started in 1986, where he worked for the Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) as Senior Management Consultant (1986-1992).
    Dr. Cotran was appointed Director for Health Systems Planning, a USAid-funded project, at the Lebanese Ministry of Health, Beirut, Lebanon (1983-1986).
    Dr. Cotran started his teaching career as an Assistant Professor at the University of Petroleum and Minerals, Mathematics Department, in Dharan, Saudi Arabia (1976-1978). He lectured at the School of Business & Management at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon from 1978 until 1986. He continued his teaching career from 2010 until present, lecturing in Human Resources at Executive MBA and Master of Human Resources programs at the American University of Beirut and at the Lebanese American University.
    Dr. Cotran holds a PhD in Statistics with a concentration in Quantitative Management from the University of Louisiana, USA.
    Since September 2019, he serves as Special Advisor to the President of Saint George University of Beirut and Acting Director of Administration.

    For over 30 years, Dr. Mimi Milki Jeha has been involved in Higher Education/University Administration programs ranging from start-ups, leadership, and immersion, to Student Affairs programs dedicated to providing a cutting-edge student experience from orientation to graduation. She has a diverse portfolio of experiences and memberships in international associations as well as serving on the boards of several national and local organizations and committees.
    Dr. Jeha serves as the Director of Student Affairs at Saint George University of Beirut (SGUB). She leads the University’s efforts to provide opportunities for students and the campus community to cultivate academic success and become fully engaged in the SGUB life.

    Gabriel Deek is the founder and CEO of digital-media solutions companies and manager of e-Business solutions activities for the past 30+ years.
    He was deeply involved in numerous projects related to Digital Transformation, Data Centers, Banking & Fintech, Government infrastructure & Services, Learning & Higher Education, Multimedia & Broadcasting, Archiving, Advanced Collaboration and Workflow, Video Production and Post-Production, and News-Room automation systems.
    He is acting on National initiatives, to digitally transform the country and provide it with the physical infrastructure and the legal framework in order to leapfrog into the Knowledge Economy, through his involvement in Industry associations such as the Professional Computer Association (PCA) and the Internet Society (ISOC), and International organizations such as the World Summit Award a UN sponsored initiative.
    Throughout his professional life he was exposed to extensive technical, managerial and commercial education with multinationals such as Apple, IBM, Oracle, SAP and others, as well as international organizations such as the World Bank, UN-ESCWA, UNIDO, UNESCO and the likes.
    He organized a substantial number of conferences and led multiple national initiatives in conjunction with supporting organizations such as US-AID, Mercy-Corps, Friedrich-Ebert, Carlos Slim foundation, US Partnership for Lebanon (a consortium of several multinationals) and others.
    He has an extensive knowledge of technology, business processes and entrepreneurship.

    Marwan AL-Azar is a seasoned professional having 25 years of experience in Education Management and ICT with expertise in Projects & Programs Management, Strategic Planning, EDTECH, IT Strategy & Governance, Business Analysis, Software Development and Process Optimization.
    In 2014, He joined the nucleus team that planned for the establishment of Saint George University of Beirut and Since 2018, He is serving as Director of Planning and Project Management (PMO).
    Prior to joining SGUB, He held multiple senior functions at the Schools of the Greek Orthodox Archdioceses of Beirut and served as Vice-Rector, Director of Strategic Planning and Director of Information and Communication Technologies. Previously, he was Sales and Marketing Manager at a high-tech company where he established a division specialized in Digital and Cyber Security solutions and managed different international partnerships with big vendors such as Oracle, Microsoft, Entrust and Internet Security Systems. Formerly, he was responsible of the Information Technologies services at Université Saint Joseph for the Medical Sciences and Social Sciences campuses. He has also been Data Analyst, Software Developer, Webmaster and University Instructor; conceived, designed, developed and implemented different innovative digital solutions for the education, higher-education, banking, commerce and NGO sectors.
    Marwan Al-Azar holds a Master in Management and a Bachelor in Business Computing from Université Saint Joseph. He is passionate for innovation and advocate for achieving positive transformation in the society through Education and Technology.
